In the 1940s, British sporting gentlemen did not make the rounds of their friends’ country houses without a brace of fine shotguns to bag a few grouse.

The fellow who owned his matched trio of especially beautiful “Royal Brevis” sidelock 12-bores made by Holland & Holland c.1940 must have been quite the shot.

The guns are being offered complete in a custom case designed to fit in the back of a fine British automobile at Bonhams’ Modern Sporting Guns sale in London on July 30.

They’re expected to bring in up to about $70,000, so hopefully you’ve got plenty of grouse recipes ready to go…
