In 2011, rally veteran Mark Higgins smashed a 21-year-old lap record for a car at the Isle of Man’s Snaefell Mountain course, and in the process had what he describes as the “biggest moment” of his life (or a tank-slapper at 140 mph to the rest of us).
This year, Higgins returned armed with a factory-spec 2014 Subaru STI, albeit lightly modified with a roll cage for safety and tuned suspension to help smooth out the road.
Although he didn’t have any “moments,” he did break the record and matched times set by the sidecars and 600cc bikes.
