Thirty years ago, a group of engineers at BMW Motorsport proposed shoehorning the M1′s inline six-cylinder engine into the 5 Series, and presto—the M5 was born, changing the game for performance sedans.

Now to celebrate the occasion, BMW is announcing a 30th-Anniversary Edition BMW M5 for 2015—the most powerful BMW production model ever.

The M5 “30 Jahre M5” will be produced in a limited run of 300 examples worldwide, of which 30 will be imported to the United States.

With an output of 600 hp and 516 lb-ft of torque, it’ll run you $138,000 and change—assuming you can get your hands on one.
