In 1970, the Chrysler Corporation tapped the Plymouth Superbird Road Runner to replace 1969′s Dodge Charger Daytona as their stock car racer of choice.

The Daytona had been the first American car to be designed aerodynamically using a wind tunnel and computer analysis, and the Superbird followed up on its success.
