After further research, we’ve unearthed the origins of the puzzling pix showing skiers being towed behind vintage Porsches at high speed.
The source is this Pathé newsreel from 1955 of “The World’s Most Dangerous Sport,” filmed “high in the Bavarian Alps.”
The “ski race with a new twist” featured daredevils being towed behind cars and motorcycles at speeds of up to 100 mph.
Remarkably enough, despite fierce competition, the winner was a Volkswagen Beetle—and no one even died…
