The first of Ducati’s new generation of “desmodromic” v-twins, the Pantah made its debut in 500cc form in 1978.

The word refers to a reciprocating engine valve, now shortened to Demso in the pantheon of Ducati nomenclature.

An early example of a modern classic, this 1979 Pantah 500 SL is expected to bring in up to about $6,500 at Bonhams’ Les Grandes Marques du Monde sale in Paris on February 6—but we expect the stunning bike will be worth much more in a few years.

Talk about “fast-appreciating”…
