One of the most renowned items of modern men’s clothing—the tweed jacket worn by Steve McQueen in the hit 1968 flick Bullitt—will be auctioned off by Bonhams at its Scottsdale, Arizona, sale on January 16.
The King of Cool’s natty sportcoat, which has a bit of British flair with its ticket pocket and suede elbow patches, was designed by the film’s Academy Award–winning costume designer Theadora van Runkle.
On offer from the Chad McQueen Collection, its been in the King’s family for 46 years and was displayed for a time the Warner Bros. Museum in Burbank, California.
Bonhams is offering the jacket at no reserve, and there’s no telling who might end up buying the iconic item or how much they’ll be willing to pay for it.
We can see Ralph Lauren for one easily shelling out a small fortune…
