Sure, the term “family car” doesn’t exactly get the pulse racing. But when the family in question is the McRae Family, well… all bets are off.
Silverstone Auctions’ sale at Race Retro on February 22 will see a 1977 Ford Escort MK2 RS1800 Gp4 Historic Rally Car cross the block starting at a modest $139,000.
Not just any ol’ Escort, though. This one was tested by the late, great Colin McRae and driven to victory at the Roger Albert Clark Rally by his father in 2006. In 2008, at the Memorial Rally for Colin McRae, Colin’s brother Alistair drove the Escort to outright victory in the historic category, beating out the likes of Ari Vatenen. (Who, history will show, is no tenderfoot in a rally car.)
So as far as family heirlooms go, this definitely beats some old coins…
