Porsche ending its 16-year sabbatical from Le Mans has been among the year’s biggest news stories. Naturally, the sports car world has been clambering for details since the announcement (no one more than Audi, we assure you).

Well, Porsche is here to put you out of your misery. It’s officially been dubbed the 919, and it’s powered by a two-liter, four-cylinder engine mated to a pair of electric motors.

Now, we know that reads more like Prius power than Porsche performance, but the recent testing says otherwise.

Webber described it as “an intense experience.”

Headlining driver and F1 refugee Mark Webber has been flogging the 919 to within an inch of its life around tracks like Monza and Magny-Cours. You would think a veteran F1 driver would be hard to impress, but Webber described it as “an intense experience.”

Now all that’s left is to do something about the exterior. We think a Martini sounds promising…
