Jeff Koons: the artist behind, among other things, a metallic-orange balloon dog that fetched $58.4 million. (Or a little more than a lightly used Ferrari.)
But his automotive masterpiece only now made its first North American debut, at Miami’s Art Basel.
See, back in 2010, BMW noticed that Koons had some free time on his hands and picked him to create a BMW “Art Car,” following in the line of such luminaries as Warhol and Roy Lichtenstein. The M3 was even raced in the 24 Hours of Le Mans the year it was painted.
And given it looks like it careened through a color wheel at the end of Mulsanne Straight… it would have been a waste not to.
