We’ve noted lots of important automotive anniversaries occurring of late, which almost made us overlook another influential occasion:
The 60th anniversary of the Rolex Submariner in 2014.
Project X Design’s tribute to the ‘Big Crown’ Rolex Submariner
Originally developed as a diver’s instrument, the Submariner has become the quintessential luxury sports watch, perfectly at home on land or at sea.
Rolex has released its own anniversary edition of the iconic timepiece, but London’s Project X Designs has one-upped them.
The luxury watch customizer has introduced their own version, dubbed the Heritage Submariner (HS01), employing original “new old stock” vintage parts.
Project X’s respected Rolex experts Daniel Bourn and Philipp Stahl collaborated on the homage to the legendary James Bond “Big Crown” Submariner, the first in Project X’s new Vintage Fusion line.
Design elements include removing the crown guards, adding the “magical” flared bevel and a red bezel triangle, giving the dial and hand lume a vintage patina, and changing the seconds hand to a white enamel.

To cap it off, the modern winding crown has been replaced with a fully functional original new old stock vintage 8 mm Rolex Brevet “Big Crown.”
The HS01 will be issued in a limited edition of 60 numbered examples, priced at £15,000, or about $23,800 beginning in October.
Aspiring 007’s should apply hammer to piggyback posthaste…
