The Lotus Esprit Series 1 “Submarine” Car used by Roger Moore as James Bond in 1977′s The Spy Who Loved Me is being sold by RM Auctions at its London event in September, which is all the excuse we need to run this photo.
Moore is joined here by Bond girl Barbara Bach, who plays sexy KGB operative Anya Amasova, aka Agent Triple X.
The one and only fully functioning car especially designed and built for the film’s famous underwater sequences, it was known as “Wet Nellie” on the set.
Florida’s Perry Oceanographic custom-built the fully operational, self-propelled “submarine” from a Lotus Esprit body shell.
At the time, it was said to have cost over $100,000 to create, or about a half million bucks in 2013 money.
Today, of course, it’s worth several million.
So the only question remains, how the hell did he drive in those clown shoes…
