Back in 1923, a little aircraft engine manufacturer called Bayerische Motoren Werke AG built the first motorcycle to bear the BMW name, the R32, four years before they brought out their first car.

Of course, automobiles would eventually leave motorcycles in the dust, but BMW’s two-wheeled machines have always remained ahead of the pack.

Nine decades later, the marque is celebrating the fact in subtle, Bavarian ways, including this nifty 90-second video summing up 90 years of BMW bikes.
