The 2013 Formula 1 season kicks off in March with the Australian Grand Prix, and Lotus has beaten the competition to the punch by being the first to unveil its entry, the E21.

As this is the final year, the series will use the current 2.4-litre V8 engine configuration, with a 1.6-litre turbocharged V6 scheduled to take its place in 2014. There’s no real drastic redesign from last season, though it’s a formidable machine nonetheless.

Lotus drivers Kimi Räikkönen and Romain Grosjean will need to rack up victories over the likes of McLaren and Ferrari for the team to make any significant progress this season, so they’re hoping the E21 can do the job.

We’ll see how likely that is later this week, when the big boys unveil their own fire-breathing beasts…
