It’s been a hectic season here at DRIVEN for celebrity rides, what with David Bowie’s Mercedes, Clark Gable’s Gullwing, Alain Delon’s Ferrari and Steve McQueen’s Chevy convertible.
Now we bring you a chance to get your paws on another car with impeccable provenance—a 1928 McLaughlin-Buick 496 Tourer custom-built for that legendary dandy the Prince of Wales, later King Edward VIII and the Duke of Windsor.
The vehicle, one of two identical models built for their Highnesses, will be up for grabs at Bonhams’ sale in Oxford, UK, on March 2.
Used extensively by the Prince and his brother the Duke of York, later King George VI, and their entourage on their royal tour of Canada in 1927 (above), it’s a conveyance literally fit for a king.
And also a steal if it comes in anywhere near its presale estimate of about $75,000…
