Audi is planning to pull out all the stops at the upcoming North American International Motor Show in Detroit.

At the event, the German marque will geschenk several new vehicles for 2014, including the revamped model lineup of the mind-bending R8 supercar and the new RS5 Cabriolet.

The R8 is getting a big boost from a new seven-speed S tronic double-clutch transmission, giving it a kick in the tailpipes, performance-wise.

At the pinnacle of the pack is the R8 V10 Plus with a fearsome 550 horsepower (120 more than the “base” R8) and 398 lb.-ft. of torque.

Thanks to the S tronic, it can now fly from 0 to 60 mph in 3.3 seconds and achieve a highly illegal—anywhere but the autobahn—top speed of 196 mph.

And thanks to the car styling equivalent of creative accounting—i.e., replacing lots of bits with carbon fiber, doing away with little amenities like power seats, and making the fuel tank smaller—it weighs 100 pounds less than its sibling the R8 V10, helping it move even more like the wind.

Of course if you insist on lead-footing it, you’ll be spending most of your time looking for the nearest gas station, but you’ll get over it…
