This week, the great French actor and icon of men’s style Alain Delon turns 77.

Having been called everything from the next James Dean to the male Brigitte Bardot, we feel the occasion warrants allowing Mr. Delon his own unique place in the pantheon.

In 1960, he first caught the world’s attention in René Clément’s priceless Purple Noon, later remade as The Talented Mr. Ripley.

As success inevitably became his lot, the handsome young actor developed a taste for both beautiful women and cars to match, as well he might.

Velvet Underground temptress Nico made a particularly comely companion, while wheels-wise he became enamored of Ferrari 250 GTs.

Here he’s seen piloting one in France in 1965, looking every inch the matinee idol.
