Surf style has been a big part of the summer around here, from the Beach Boys Smile Sessions to LeRoy Grannis’s brilliant book of photos from the ’60s and ’70s.

Here we have one of Grannis’s greatest hits: a woody wagon flanked by a crew of young surfers between heats at the Makaha Championships in Hawaii, 1962.
