Back in 1988 when BMW unveiled the Z1 to the international motoring press in Punta Ala, it caused a sensation.
Based BMW 507 from the late 1950s, the two-seater sports car was the first from the German marque in over 30 years.
The car went into production soon after, ending in 1991 after a run of just 8,000 vehicles.
Its DNA is still alive today, however, in the form of the Z4.
But on the eve of the 24th anniversary of the original, we offer this look under the clothing of the racy roadster.
