Famed footballer George Best (1946–2005) was an icon of British sport, a dab hand with a drink, a blonde and a sports car, and generally several of each at once.
Long before Beckham, Best was the man men emulated most; you’ve heard our own Duncan Quinn invoke his name in hallowed tones.
The Manchester United star owned a fleet of cars, including Jaguar, Lotus, MG and Mini Cooper, and of course traveled in high style wherever he went.
At one point he even had his own men’s shop in Manchester (below).

Bonhams’ Sporting Memorabilia sale on February 22 in Chester, UK, contains a treasure trove of Best memorabilia, including some of his signature leather jackets and this lot of gent’s travel essentials.
Estimated at up to about $1,500, the collection includes Best’s UK passport, his black leather briefcase, fountain pen, business cards, and even his British Airways tickets—first class, of course.
“I spent 90% of my money on women, drink and fast cars,” Best once noted.
“The rest I wasted.”
