Born on this day in 1948: His Royal Highness Charles Philip Arthur George, Prince of Wales and future King of England.

The natty royal has always had great taste in cars as well as such upper class pursuits as Savile Row tailoring, single malt Scotch, polo and grouse shooting.

Women, not so much.

Prince Charles and his Aston Martin at a polo match in 1986

Here he’s pictured in 1986 arriving at the UK’s famed Guards Polo Club near Windsor Castle in his classic Aston Martin DB6 Volante, a 21st birthday present from the Queen which he later lent to his son Prince William on his wedding day.

Visible at top right is the Welsh dragon mascot Charles had affixed to the car’s bonnet, lest anyone forget that he rules the place.

While he may be a bit of a bumbler at times, on such occasions as Royal Ascot or inspecting Laphroaig’s latest offering you can always count on Chuck to cut a dash much as he did here.

And really, what more could you ask of an antiquated aristocracy than that?
