Picasso and the great Gary Cooper formed a lasting friendship in the 1950s, when the actor was a frequent visitor to the artist’s villa in Cannes.

On one occasion in 1959, Coop presented the tiny terror with a Stetson and revolver from one of his Westerns, to the artist’s obvious delight.

Photographer André Villers was on hand to capture the moment, and his alluring image of same will be on offer at BonhamsPhotographs sale in London on Nov. 17.

Estimated at up to about $4,700, it’s worth far more as evidence of the intersection of two pop culture icons.

Too bad they never made a movie together….
