For our latest installment on RM Auctions‘ bang-up Battersea Evolution sale in London on October 26, we bring you a 1972 Lamborghini Miura SV.

The ultimate-spec “Spinto Veloce” variant of the original Italian supercar, it’s expected to fetch up to about $1.4 million.

Offering massive speed and jaw-dropping Bertone design, race-inspired technical innovation and a “wallet-wilting price tag”, the Miura set the automotive world on fire when it debuted at the 1966 Geneva Salon.

Named for an infamous fighting bull and capable of nearly 180 mph, the Miura SV was simply the fastest production vehicle on the planet; only 150 were built.

Miles Davis is said to have driven his Miura around with a .357 Magnum stashed under the seat and enjoyed outrunning police cars while terrified passengers like Jimi Hendrix held on for dear life.

He crashed the car in 1972, breaking both ankles in the process – and immediately ordered another….
