We’ve been eagerly awaiting our advance copy of the new preppy bible and we’re chuffed to say it was well worth it, old sport.

Preppy: Cultivating Ivy Style by designer Jeffrey Banks and journalist Doria de La Chapelle, is due out from Rizzoli in early October after much breathlessness on the part of the blogosphere.

The coffee table tome will delight many a style buff for its brilliant assemblage of images, along with a tip of the straw boater to the likes of Ivy Style, ACL, Mister Mort, Valet and Unabashedly Prep.

Needless to say you should have already placed your pre-order, but we’ll be bringing you a few glimpses from its top-drawer files in the next few weeks [cont'd below].

To kick things off here’s the inimitable William F. Buckley, Jr., steering a course in classic threads in his yacht off Long Island Sound in 1966.

History does not record exactly what the National Review founder was wearing on this occasion, though we’d say it’s a combo of Brooks Bros. (featured on the book’s cover) and J. Press.

He must have been shopping soon before the pic was taken however as he looks a little less disheveled than usual.

We’d say that grosgrain watchband is going to be copied across the globe, but of course it already has.

Scroll down for another natty pic to tide you over until your copy arrives, but please keep a monogrammed hanky handy to catch the drool….
