The other day we wrote about the DC100, which may eventually evolve into the next generation Land Rover Defender.

While everyone’s debating the merits of a radical change to the design of the world’s most famous SUV, we bring you a look at one of the originals that inspired it.

A classic Land Rover from 1954 shows the evolution of the Defender

This 1954 Land Rover Series I is one of a number of classic Land Rover’s set to cross the block at at Bonhams‘ Beaulieu Autojumble sale at the UK’s National Motor Museum this weekend.

Built between 1949 and 1958, the Series I Land Rover remains the iconic model for many purists.

This extremely well-kept example is expected to fetch up to about $15,000.

When the Defender gets its makeover you can bet it’ll be worth a lot more….
