While vacationing in Italy in 1956, the great Gary Cooper decided to try out a traditional mode of conveyance:

The Vespa.

An impeccably-tailored Gary Cooper tests out a Vespa in Rome in 1956

Cooper, who usually stayed at the Excelsior in the Via Veneto, no doubt found time to visit his tailor at Brioni as well.

The actor acquired a fondness for all things stylish and Italian when he conducted an affair with the Countess di Frasso, a wealthy socialite, during an earlier sojourn to Rome in the ’30s.

We’ve no idea if the impeccably-tailored actor ever made it out of the parking lot on this occasion, but if so you can bet he pulled it off in true Dolce Vita style….
