Christie’sPopular Culture: Rock & Pop Memorabilia sale in London on June 14 contains an impressive collection of items relating to classic British band The Who.

Chief among them is a circa 1972 Gibson Les Paul Deluxe guitar (below) that belonged to Pete Townshend, expected to fetch up to $50,000.

Townshend used the instrument on the American leg of the band’s Quadrophenia tour in 1973, a Mod classic.

To mark the occasion we give you this photo of the band – Roger Daltrey, John Entwistle, Keith Moon and Townshend (above from left to right) – from 1966 with Daltrey’s Volvo P1800 in London.

The swinging Swedish sports car was the perfect complement to The Who’s Carnaby Street finery, a look since perpetuated by the likes of Paul Smith.

You can find a P1800 in mint condition for considerably less than Townshend’s guitar – unless it belonged to a British rock star, of course….
