A few months before Japan was struck by the earthquake and tsunami in March, foppish Fiat heir-turned-designer Lapo Elkann filmed a video (below) for his Italia Independent label there exploring the country’s heady mix of tradition and innovation.
In the wake of the disaster the influential fashionisto decided to pitch in with his signature flair and create a pair of custom sunglasses to aid the relief efforts.

Based on Italia Independent‘s best-selling update of the classic aviator, the slick shades are reinterpreted in the colors of Japan’s flag, with “Pray for Japan” written on the temples in Japanese characters and all profits going to Doctors without Borders.
Here Lapo models the eye-catching eyewear for us, paired with a Fellini-esque tricolore jacket that only he could carry off with such sprezzatura.
The shades just happen to be perfect for piloting a a bespoke Ferrari at top speed to boot.
Doing good while looking good – that’s our boy.
