James Dean had one; so did Steve McQueen. The Porsche 356 Speedster, introduced in 1954, appealed to those in need of serious style and speed.

The Spartan version of the 356 first unveiled in Geneva in 1949 featured a low, raked windshield which could be removed for weekend racing, bucket seats and a simple folding top.

These days the Speedster is highly elusive and exclusive, especially the first 200 of the rare “Pre-A” models built by hand.

One such beauty has just been listed for sale by Sweden’s Classic Garage via global online luxury marketplace JamesList for about $218,000.

Impeccably restored, the bright red rocket, #108 in the series from 1954, is ready for a modern-day McQueen to take the wheel.

You’ve always wanted to visit Sweden anyway….
