The White Lightning Trail

Moonshine and road trips. An interesting combination to be sure, and one that fairly screams "designated driver." Where else would you find such a proposition but Tennessee?

Garden & Gun – great magazine, by the way – reports that the folks at Discover Tennessee Trails & Byways have put together detailed maps and itineraries for a variety of scenic routes to take you and your pals off the beaten path this season.

One aptly dubbed the White Lightning Trail follows the state’s storied moonshine history, from old stills and stock cars to historic Appalachian dwellings and Civil War sites (just watch out for those re-enactment nuts in the coonskin caps).

No word on tastings, but they’ve helpfully created downloadable playlists designed to pair with each route.

We’re assuming the White Lightning mix starts with Iggy Pop’s The Passenger and ends with I Don’t Like Mondays.
