Welcome to the first in an instructional series on classics of motoring style. Today’s lesson: the leather jacket, and how to wear same with sprezzatura to spare.
Ideal for riding a motorcycle of course, when done correctly it’s equally suitable for piloting stylish vehicles of varying descriptions – or even just riding around in the backs of limos with supermodels on crack.
“Look closely and you can even see a little supermodel drool on the left sleeve”
That pretty much sums up the louche look here from Bryan Ferry, the best-dressed rock star of all time. The preternaturally suave Mr. Ferry turns the iconic biker jacket into elegant evening wear with the addition of an off-white dress shirt and black silk tie.
The item in question appears to be a classic Schott Perfecto, which the company has been doing some interesting things with of late. Look closely and you can even see a little supermodel drool on the left sleeve….
(The classic snap appears in Iké Udé’s brilliant book Style File from Collins Design – snag a copy if you haven’t already)
